A medicinal product may only be prescribed or supplied for an animal if the prescriber knows the animal or livestock.

If the medicinal product is intended for production animals, the prescriber must also know the state of health of the animal.

The Federal Council may prohibit the prescription and dispensing of medicinal products or the application of medicinal products that need no authorisation in accordance with Article 9 paragraph 2 for production animals. It may also restrict the prescription, dispensing or application of these products.104
